Project in Brief
CSSI created an RFID solution to enable a flooring company to track pallets for specific jobs, saving time and avoiding lost product.
Customer’s Challenge:
Our customer, a flooring company, was having a problem keeping track of items needed for specific work orders. This resulted in time spent searching for missing items, slowing down the pace of work in the warehouse. Incoming shipments would be correctly noted, but due to the nature of the warehouse, pallets were later shuffled around, and unable to be located when needed to load installer trucks.
CSSI’s Solution:
After analyzing the current state and desired workflows, CSSI created a solution using RFID technology. RFID tags were printed and encoded using a Zebra RFID tag printer and applied to inbound items on the receiving dock. Once tagged, the customer can now locate these items faster in the warehouse even if they are unexpectedly moved. A handheld RFID reader is available for fast manual searches when required.
Beyond the time savings in picking orders, an advantage of CSSI’s provided software solution is that the daily picking process doubles as a cycle count, since the RFID antenna captures all tags present. Using a software feature, the strength of RFID signal can allow the operator to judge if the items are in the right locations.
Finally, fixed RFID antennas mounted at the dock doors allow for a final check of shipment accuracy, since missing or unexpected items can be flagged.
In summary, CSSI’s solution included:
- RFID Reader and Antennas
- Handheld RFID reader
- RFID middleware (software solution)
- RFID consulting, setup, and training
