CSSI provided remote mobile computer management and support services for a trucking company with a large fleet of mobile Android devices and no resources for internal device support.
Customer’s Challenge:
Our customer is a trucking firm (transportation & logistics industry) with a fleet of hundreds of vehicles. Drivers carry mobile devices which are critical for managing communication and pick-up and delivery status. As the firm has grown, IT staff found themselves unable to adequately support and manage the large quantities of handhelds, from deployment through break-fix and redeployment. A particular headache was caused when devices sent for repair were returned wiped of all company settings, sometimes on the wrong version of Android. Plus, maintaining security and device standards while keeping current with Android firmware updates was too difficult with devices which were rarely on-premise.
CSSI’s Solution:
As a core enabler for the solution, CSSI recommended SOTI MobiControl, mobile device management software. MobiControl provides access to a dispersed fleet of devices, allowing remote control and administration of devices.
CSSI then added the trucking company to our Device Lifecycle Management program. As part of this program, we worked with the customer to create a standard device configuration (application access, screen lockdowns) and deployed the standard to all handhelds. Once enrolled, devices which were returned for repair were reset by CSSI to the company’s correct configuration… this enabled the customer to immediately deploy devices upon receipt. On an annual basis, CSSI tests and then deploys the current Android firmware, keeping our customer secure.
