Perhaps it&#8217;s the first time you are working from home with GP, and contending with problems and issues. Thankfully, Microsoft has prepared a Q&amp;A to assist with some of the most common issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Problems You May Be Encountering Working From Home With GP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#1 Are you being kicked out of GP in the middle of a session?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Potential causes may be:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If using RemoteApp or Citrix sessions, does the issue occur if you remove these and login to Dynamics GP directly from the server or workstation, or RDP to the machine, not using RemoteApp or Citrix?<\/li><li>Damaged or corrupted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/951767\/how-to-re-create-the-forms-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">FORM.DIC<\/a>\u00a0\/\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/850465\/how-to-re-create-the-reports-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">REPORT.DIC<\/a>\u00a0dictionary files<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#2 Is GP crashing on the terminal server?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Potential causes:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The use of a P2P\/WAN configuration \u2013 Microsoft Dynamics GP isn\u2019t designed to\u00a0work in\u00a0and is not supported in a WAN environment.\u00a0<\/li><li>Installation\/Configuration issues\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/872242\/how-to-deploy-microsoft-dynamics-gp-and-microsoft-business-solutions-g\">How to deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Business Solutions &#8211; Great Plains in a Terminal Server environment<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Damaged or corrupted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/951767\/how-to-re-create-the-forms-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">FORM.DIC<\/a>\u00a0\/\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/850465\/how-to-re-create-the-reports-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">REPORT.DIC<\/a>\u00a0dictionary files\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#3 Are you experiencing performance issues with GP on a terminal server environment?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00a0Potential causes:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Some of the files GP is using, is not located on the Terminal Server.\u00a0Put the\u00a0Dynamics.set\u00a0file and all dictionary files that are listed in the\u00a0Dynamics.set\u00a0file onto the server that is running Terminal Server.<a href=\"https:\/\/community.dynamics.com\/gp\/b\/dynamicsgp\/posts\/troubleshooting-dynamics-gp-performance-in-a-terminal-server-environment\">Troubleshooting Dynamics GP in Terminal Server<\/a> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#4 Is Dynamics GP crashing?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00a0Potential causes:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reboot the server or workstation Microsoft Dynamics GP is installed onto.\u00a0<\/li><li>Damaged or corrupted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/951767\/how-to-re-create-the-forms-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">FORM.DIC<\/a>\u00a0\/\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/850465\/how-to-re-create-the-reports-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">REPORT.DIC<\/a>\u00a0dictionary files<\/li><li>Antivirus application doesn\u2019t have exclusion for Dynamics GP directory, shared folders holding GP dictionary files, nor the Dynamics.exe file itself.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>We also recommend exclusions on these file types:<br>.cnk\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0File is used when service packs or product is installed. These files should not be in the directory for a significant time.<br>.dic and .chm\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Files are the Help files for Microsoft Dynamics GP.\u00a0\u00a0<br>.set\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0 Is the start file for Dynamics GP and Utilities, the files store information of what and where products are installed.\u00a0<br>.ini\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0 Is the configuration files. These files hold information about which user logged on most recently, what data source is used, and the path.<br>.dat\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 These files are\u00a0ctree\u00a0.dat\u00a0files that are used with an SQL database.\u00a0\u00a0<br>.idx\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0These files are\u00a0ctree\u00a0index files that are used with an SQL database.\u00a0\u00a0<br>.vba\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0Files are used if there are Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) modifications for Microsoft Dynamics GP.\u00a0\u00a0<br>.log\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This file type used if you use a Dexsql.log file to troubleshoot an error message.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0Add Dynamics.exe as an exclusion in DEP.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Log into the Windows Server as an administrator&nbsp;<\/li><li>Browse to the Control Panel and click on &#8216;System and Security&#8217;.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Click on &#8216;System&#8217;, then click on &#8216;Advanced system settings&#8217; on the left-hand side of the window.&nbsp;<\/li><li>In the &#8216;System Properties&#8217; window that opens, click on the &#8216;Advanced&#8217; tab, then click on &#8216;Settings&#8217; in the Performance section.&nbsp;<\/li><li>In the &#8216;Performance Options&#8217; window, click the &#8216;Data Execution Prevention&#8217; tab.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Select the &#8216;Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select&#8217; option, then click the &#8216;Add&#8230;&#8217; button and browse to the Microsoft Dynamics GP directory and select the Dynamics.exe file, click Open.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Click Apply to save your changes and then click OK to close the window.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Have users log out and back into Dynamics GP and verify whether they continue to see the issue with the freezing occur or not after this change is made.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If Microsoft Dynamics GP is \u2018crashing\u2019 randomly not related to user- or machine-specific processes, it could be due to SQL connectivity issues:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/community.dynamics.com\/gp\/b\/dynamicsgp\/posts\/sql-connectivity-errors-seen-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp\">SQL Connectivity Errors seen in Microsoft Dynamics GP<\/a>\u00a0<\/li><li>Third party products and features installed on Microsoft Dynamics GP, to include RemoteApp and Citrix sessions.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#5 Does GP crash or close when emailing?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&#8212;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.dynamics.com\/gp\/b\/dynamicsgp\/posts\/dynamics-gp-crashes-closes-when-emailing-after-office-update\" class=\"\">Microsoft Dynamics GP crashes\/closes when emailing after Office update<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are you experiencing issues not covered here? <a href=\"https:\/\/cssi.com\/gp\/contact\/\">Contact CSSI&#8217;s GP support team for help.<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you currently working from home with GP due to the COVID-19 crisis?
